Eight Apply For Plymouth City Council Ward 4 Seat

In August, Ward 4 Plymouth Council Member Ginny Black announced her retirement from the Plymouth City Council after nearly 18 years of service. 

Black's retirement will be effective Sept. 30. The city is now looking for someone who would be appointed to fill the Ward 4 seat and finish out the current term. Applications for the seat were due Sept. 5 and eight applications were submitted to the city.

According to the city, the council must appoint an eligible person to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election when the office is filled for the unexpired term and if that doesn't happen within 60 days the mayor appoints an eligible person to fill the vacancy. 

Historically, the council has solicited applications from residents and conducted interviews of interested residents when vacancies have happened. 

Once applications are in, the council will review them at a special meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, and interviews could be conducted at a special meeting, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Questions are asked of each candidate interviewed, those questions are posted with this story.

Someone could be appointed that evening or by Tuesday, Sept. 24. The new council member would be sworn in at a regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
