Financial Woes Force MN Company To Shut Down Twin Cities Plants
Two metro plants are closing permanently, impacting 100 workers across all levels of the company.
PLYMOUTH, MN — J&E Companies is closing two Twin Cities metro facilities and permanently laying off 100 workers, according to a WARN notice filed with the Minnesota State Rapid Response Team.
About 70 employees will be let go from the company’s Plymouth facility at 13310 Industrial Park Blvd. Another 30 employees will be laid off from the Shakopee facility at 4500 Valley Industrial Boulevard.
Before the Twin Cities closures, J&E operated six facilities across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Mexico, employing approximately 325 people. The company provides precision metal fabrication, engineering, and assembly, and holds certifications including ISO 9001 and AS9100.

Layoffs began June 2 and are due to ongoing financial difficulties, the company said. The closures are permanent.

Employees are not represented by a union, and no bumping rights exist.
The Minnesota State Rapid Response Team is coordinating the layoff response, with specialists Mee Yang and Laura Dale leading the assessment.
J&E Companies, headquartered in Plymouth, has been operating for more than 65 years and serves a broad range of industries including medical, aerospace, commercial, and agriculture.
In 2022, the company expanded by integrating R&B, a Wisconsin-based precision machining firm, into its operations, according to its website.
