PLYMOUTH, MN — An online petition opposing a proposal to build a massive church in Plymouth has received thousands of signatures.

Eagle Brook Church, which has a dozen locations, mostly in the Twin Cities area, has plans to build in a residential neighborhood near Chankahda Trail across from Wayzata Meadow Ridge Elementary School, according to the petition, which had over 3,300 signatures as of early Friday.

“The traffic, environmental, and quality of life impacts to residents is immeasurable (not to mention the financial impact due to the immediate devaluation of surrounding homes),” the Change.org petition said. “Other EBC locations typically have more than capacity attendance and continuous issues with traffic congestion.”

Over 100 people came out for a question-and-answer event last week at Wayzata High School to learn about the project, according to KSTP.

Church leaders said the building would be 64,000 square feet, seat as many as 1,500 and include 685 parking spots, as well as a cul de sac and emergency access path for first responders, KSTP reported. The 54-acre property where the church would be constructed is zoned for agricultural use and the church still needs to get a conditional use permit, according to the outlet, which reported that if it obtains the permit, Eagle Brook would break ground early next year.
