Three Roseville Businesses Fined For Serving Minors Alcohol

The city-owned Cedarholm Golf Course was dealt the harshest penalty by the Roseville Council.

The Roseville City Council has handed down $1,000 penalties to three local businesses for failing alcohol compliance checks by serving beer to a minor.

The council earlier this week voted unanimously to fine Rainbow Foods Liquor Store, Love from Minnesota, and Roseville Cedarholm Golf Course. For all the establishments, it was the first violation in at least 36 months.

Cedarholm is a publicly operated golf course and parks and recreation director Lonnie Brokke apologized to the council for the “serious lack in judgment” of a city employee.

“I recognize that Cedarholm’s training program is in need of improvements,” Brokke said. “This is the first time that this has happened in my almost 23 years here and I feel obviously terribly sick about it.”

The Roseville Council extended the automatic one-day liquor license suspension to ten days for Cedarholm.

Rainbow Foods and Cedarholm were fined an additional $1,000 for the failure to comply with the city of Roseville’s manager and training guidelines.

Roseville businesses are mailed instructions on how to train its workers on liquor law compliance.

“It’s mind boggling to me that we send things out and people don’t read them or hear about them when we talk about them,” Roseville council member Tammy Pust said.

The compliance checks were conducted on Aug. 30 and 31, with a plain clothes officer accompanying an 18-year-old underage buyer.

In each case the underage buyer, brought either a six-pack of Bud Lite or a single can of Budweiser and handed her drivers license to an employee. The employees looked at the buyer’s drivers license, took her money and sold her the drinks.

In Roseville, the minimum penalty for serving a minor alcohol is a $1,000 fine and a one-day liquor license suspension.
