Beloved St. Paul Restaurant That Closed Suddenly Is Coming Back

The team behind Can Can Wonderland is helping breathe new life into one of Lowertown's most-loved restaurants.

ST. PAUL, MN — A popular Lowertown restaurant that closed without warning earlier this year is gearing up for a summer comeback.

Dark Horse Bar & Eatery, which shut its doors on Valentine’s Day, will reopen in early July under new ownership.

The revival is being led by chef Shane Oporto, formerly of La Belle Vie, Octo Fishbar, and The Mudd Room, and his partner, Sarah McDonough, who announced the news Tuesday on Instagram.

"While the name and spirit you know and love remain, we're bringing a new look, an updated food and beverage selection inspired by our life’s experiences, and the same dedication to serving this neighborhood with heart," the couple wrote.

Before its abrupt February closure, Dark Horse had built a loyal following in the heart of Lowertown. Now, it’s entering a new chapter with fresh leadership but the same neighborhood-first mission.

“We can't wait to welcome you in,” they added.

According to the Pioneer Press, the team behind Can Can Wonderland and St. Paul Brewing is helping bring Dark Horse back to life this July.
