Man, Dog Killed In Christmas Eve Crash: St. Paul Police
A 64-year-old man and his 2-year-old German Shepherd were out walking when they were hit by a vehicle over the holiday weekend, police said.
ST. PAUL, MN — A pedestrian and his dog were killed in a crash over the holiday weekend in St. Paul, according to police.
The victim was identified as 64-year-old Steven Wirtz of St. Paul, police said, adding his pet was a 2-year-old German Shepherd.
Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. Sunday to a call about a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Maryland Avenue West and Park Street in the city’s North End neighborhood, police posted on social media.

Wirtz was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, who said his dog was also killed. The driver stayed in the area and was cooperating with police, authorities said.
"The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation," police posted Tuesday on social media. "No arrests have been made and no further updates are available."
