ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party broke its previous record 24-hour online fundraising period on Monday, according to party officials.

The funds came after President Joe Biden announced he would end his presidential campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the next Democratic nominee.

"Less than two hours after [Sunday's] announcement from President Biden, grassroots donors began flooding the Minnesota DFL with small dollar donations, well before the DFL had sent a single fundraising email or text message regarding the news," the DFL said.

"The last 24 hours were the strongest 24-hour online fundraising period in Minnesota DFL Party history, with over $100,000 raised through digital fundraising alone. Our party and our base are fired up and ready to elect Kamala Harris and to defeat Donald Trump in November."

Biden stepped out of the race following mounting pressure from congressional Democrats concerned about his ability to beat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 race for the White House.

Biden's disastrous debate performance last month and subsequent media interviews showed evidence of cognitive decline for the 81-year-old.

Meanwhile, Harris, 59, has already secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become her party’s new nominee, according to an Associated Press survey.
