Man Crashed Into Cop Cars, Fled In St. Louis Park: Police

After fleeing police in a stolen car, the man was eventually found hiding in a dumpster, according to authorities.

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — A Minneapolis man is accused of hitting "numerous" police squad cars while fleeing offices in a stolen vehicle in St. Louis Park.

Andres Castillo, 26, was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree assault, fleeing a peace officer, receiving stolen property and illegally possessing a gun. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, on March 13, St. Louis Park police went to a department store at 8440 Highway 7 for a reported shoplifting.

At the scene, police found Castillo inside a stolen vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

Police tried to barricade Castillo by positioning their squad cars around him, but he reversed the stolen car, accelerated, and slammed into a squad car, police said.

Castillo then hit other squad cars that surrounded him and fled the scene, according to the criminal complaint. However, Castillo ended up crashing the stolen vehicle on Highway 169 by Londonberry Road, police said.

Castillo bailed out of the car and was found hiding in a dumpster, according to authorities.

Later, while searching the vehicle, police found a firearm near the driver’s side floorboard with the serial numbers removed, according to the criminal complaint.

Castillo cannot possess a firearm due to his previous felony convictions.
