University Of Minnesota Announces New Mask Mandate

The University of Minnesota and other state colleges will again require face masks to be worn indoors.

MINNEAPOLIS — Masks are now required for anyone in an enclosed or indoor space on the University of Minnesota campus and other Minnesota state colleges, officials announced Monday.

The mandate comes as the Delta variant of the coronavirus is causing a surge in new cases across the United States.

"Employees and students should not attempt to directly enforce this directive, but instead should share any concerns about others’ behavior with their supervisor or a school official," the university states.

"Any employee, student, or visitor who fails to abide with this directive may be asked or directed to leave the campus space. Faculty, staff, and students who are directed to leave a campus space for failure to comply with these guidelines may be taken off duty and/or subject to disciplinary action."

Exceptions to the policy include children under the age of 2 years or anyone unable to remove a face mask without assistance. View all exceptions to the policy here.
