Polar Plungers Raise $23K In Stillwater For Special Olympics MN

STILLLWATER, MN — More than 100 people from around the Stillwater area teamed up last week to support Special Olympics in Minnesota.

The first-ever "Cool School Polar Plunge" at Stillwater Area High School on March 28 beat its $20,000 goal, with 148 people raising $23,002 for the organization.

The Ponies TRUST Club team led the way in fundraising, raising more than half of the total donations gathered for the event. Four dozen team members brought $11,829, according to the official Polar Plunge website.

The TRUST (True Respect Unifies Students Together) Club gives students at Stillwater Area High School "a new outlook on kids with disabilities" and provides "a unique opportunity for students with and without disabilities to work through educational and physical activities and come together on equal terms," according to the school.

The SAHS Boys Hockey Polar Plunge team collected $4,381 in donations, while Team Nicklebeast raised $1,548 for Special Olympics Minnesota.

The Paranormal Polar Bears team raised $624 for the event.

Donations raised through Polar Plunge events are expected to help send more than 100 athletes from Minnesota to compete in June at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando.
