Tornado Watch Issued Monday For Washington County

Strong storms could bring "a few tornadoes" and hail as large as a tennis ball to the Twin Cities region, the NWS said.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Washington County will be under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS issued the tornado watch around 2:45 p.m. Monday, warning that “a few tornadoes” were possible across the region, as well as hail as large as a tennis ball. Wind gusts could also reach up to 70 mph Monday in the Twin Cities region and western Wisconsin, according to the organization.

Monday’s tornado watch covers 38 Minnesota counties.

Washington County was under a severe thunderstorm watch from Monday morning through 3 p.m. It was the only county in Minnesota included in that watch.

A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect for much of Minnesota, including Washington County. The hazardous weather outlook warns there could be several rounds of thunderstorms Monday, with large hail possible during the first storm in the morning.

A second round may occur Monday afternoon and evening across eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin," according to the NWS. “Large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado or two are possible with that round."

Wind speeds could reach up to 50 mph Monday in some areas covered by the hazardous weather outlook.
