Michele Bachmann returned to the Upstate (of South Carolina) for the first time in six weeks and, if anything, her popularity appears to have grown during her absence.

And despite a flub that referenced today as Elvis Presley's bithday—it's actually the 34th anniversary of his death (see video)—the audience liked what they heard from the Minnesota congresswoman.

Meeting with members of the press following her Spartanburg talk, she corrected herself on the Elvis gaffe. And at an event later Tuesday afternoon in Greenville, she correctly acknowlegded that it was the anniversary of his death.

Bachmann was welcomed by several hundred supporters at the Beacon Drive-In in Spartanburg and delivered a stump speech that hammered President Obama's policies and pointedly steered clear of rivals, former Gov. Mitt Romney and Gov. Rick Perry.

Fresh off her narrow  this past weekend, Bachmann is looking to sustain that momentum and build support from among the Tea Party's ample presence in South Carolina.

Still, she will need strong grassroots-level support to challenge Perry and Romney, both of whom are expected to raise more money.
