Wintry Weekend Weather Covers Washington County With Snow, Ice

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Days are getting longer and March Madness is just around the corner, sure signs that spring is on its way. But winter was not quite ready to end this weekend in Washington County.

Five inches of snow fell in Forest Lake, while Stillwater saw four inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall totals were lower on the southern end of the county. Parts of Woodbury recorded 2.5 inches of snow, while 1.4 inches fell in St. Paul Park and 1 inch fell in Afton, the NWS said.

Most of that accumulated during an “intense” period of snowfall that lasted only two to three hours early Sunday morning, the NWS said.

Despite a few unseasonably warm days in recent weeks, Minnesotans should expect the cold to linger for a little while longer, the NWS said.

'Prolonged' Cold Air Mass Settles In Twin Cities: MN Weather

A “prolonged cool air mass” is forecast to linger across the region and “keep temperatures below the seasonal average for early March," according to NWS forecasters.

The NWS also said there is a slight chance of light snow this week, though no “significant” weather systems are expected in the region.
