10 Woodbury Schools On Weekly Coronavirus Outbreak List: MDH

WOODBURY, MN — The number of Woodbury schools with recent coronavirus outbreaks reached a new high last week when 10 schools were named on the Minnesota Department of Health’s weekly list. Seven schools were included on the list the previous week.

Middleton Elementary, Lake Middle School and Woodbury High School were added to the most recent list, joining three South Washington County elementary schools (Liberty Ridge, Royal Oaks and Valley Crossing), East Ridge High School, Saint Ambrose Catholic School, New Life Academy and Woodbury Leadership Academy.

The Minnesota Department of Health’s most recent list included 16 facilities with the South Washington County Schools district.

The COVID-19 data dashboard for South Washington County Schools shows there have been 1,003 total coronavirus cases this academic year across the district's schools, as of Tuesday. The district has reported more than 220 cases since Nov. 19, the dashboard shows.

The recent surge in coronavirus cases triggered increased health and safety procedures at the district’s elementary schools.

COVID-19 Case Spike Prompts New Safety Rules In SoWashCo Schools

The new procedures, which reduce students’ movement throughout buildings and require them to eat in their classrooms, started Monday.

South Washington County elementary schools have also restructured student arrival and dismissal procedures, while providing more room for social distancing and conducting targeted cleaning, officials said.

The increased healthy and safety measures are due to continue until winter break.

The Minnesota Department of Health’s most recent list of facilities with recent coronavirus outbreaks included 37 Washington County schools, up from 30 the previous week. More than 800 schools statewide were named on the list.
