Petry, a senior at Fertile-Beltrami, was the only Class A golfer to post a score of 72 or under for any round at the state tournament, but Witherow’s consistency led him to the title.

Witherow finished one over par both days, while Petry finished three over on the first day before hitting par the second day, MSHSL statistics show.

Witherow tied for fourth in the 2021 Class A state tournament with a score of 150, according to the MSHSL. Shaving four strokes off last year's final score won Witherow the 2022 title, as Petry posted the same score last week as he did when he won the 2021 tournament.
