The Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment will host the third annual free paper shredding event 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the county’s Environmental Center, 4039 Cottage Grove Drive, Woodbury.
Residents are encouraged to bring all their old confidential papers for witnessed destruction and recycling.
This special event is offered to Washington County residents as a service to help shred and recycle those important papers to protect identity, and keep more paper out of the garbage.

Last year, more than 20,000 pounds of shredded paper were recycled at the event, preventing much of this paper from entering the solid waste stream. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed, and as an additional service, CDs, floppy disks, and other digital media will be accepted for off-site destruction. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, is required.
Businesses can also bring papers for shredding, up to six boxes, weighing no more than 30 pounds each.
