Families To Celebrate Hmong New Year At Woodbury High

Hmong New Year celebrations are typically held in November and December to honor ancestors and give thanks at the end of the harvest season.

WOODBURY, MN — Woodbury High School is set to host a Hmong New Year celebration featuring performances and a fashion show on Friday night.

The annual celebration is scheduled to run from 6-9 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and auditorium, with food, crafts, ball toss and other activities for guests to enjoy.

The event was organized by the Hmong Parent Advisory Council 833, the East Ridge Asian American Student Union, the Woodbury Asian Club and the Park Asian American Club. Organizers are recommending all guests wear masks regardless of their vaccination status.

The Hmong new year started Sunday, according to the United Hmong Family, which organizes the annual Minnesota Hmong New Year Celebration in St. Paul. This year’s event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
