Minnesota Connections Academy Recognizes Woodbury Student
Student of the Month Award recognizes achievements in and out of the virtual classroom
Maliyah Momanyi, of Woodbury, was recently named one of Minnesota Connections Academy’s (MNCA) Students of the Month in recognition of her achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.
Maliyah, a sixth grader at the public online school, was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Stotko, because of her hard work and determination to succeed. As a Student of the Month, Maliyah will receive a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Minnesota Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms.
“Our students of the month demonstrate leadership and an extraordinary commitment to learning while serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Brad Swanson, School Leader at Minnesota Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.”

Maliyah came to Minnesota Connections Academy last year after she and her grandmother, Yvette, realized that she did better academically in a virtual classroom during the pandemic. She said she was a little upset leaving her previous school, but she loves it now and believes it was the right choice.
“I learn so much more, and I understand things better. If I need more help, the teachers are able to help me. I love it overall,” she said.
