New Commercial Development in Woodbury

The city on Friday sent out a notice about upcoming projects, and some already underway, in Woodbury.

Woodbury saw 26,000 square feet of new commercial construction in 2012, up from just 5,000 the year before but well below figures from the mid-2000s.

In 2004 Woodbury had 823,000 square feet of new commercial space, and in 2006 that number was 717,000, according to figures on the city’s website.

Woodbury looks poised for another jump in 2013 and beyond.

A page on the city’s website lists several development projects, including:

Bielenberg Gardens

Jerry’s Enterprises has already announced plans for a new grocery store at the site of the future urban village at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Bailey Road. Bielenberg Gardens will feature a variety of housing along with 147,800 square feet of new retail space.

Cabela’s

Work is expected to begin this summer on a new Cabela’s, which will span 93,000 square feet, according to the city’s website. It will be built at the southwest intersection of Radio Drive and Interstate 94.

Commerce Hill

Work continues at the Commerce Hill area, near the SuperTarget off Woodbury Drive.

Plans call for 286,828 square feet of new space, with a new McDonald’s among the highlights. Office development is also planned at the site.

Crossroads Commerce Center

The final phase of a six-building project has secured city approval. The last structure will span 37,832 square feet.

The area is north of Commerce Drive, south of Hudson Road and east of Rivertown Drive.

O’Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home

O’Halloran and Murphy had planned to open its new funeral home off Valley Creek Road east of Radio Drive this winter, but it’s still under construction. It’s a 26,617-square-foot structure.

Schneiderman’s Furniture

Schneiderman’s Furniture is looking to add a second story to its existing building, which would bring its total square footage up to 68,800.

Commons at Tamarack Hills

The project has gained city approval, and it’s now under construction. Plans call for 158,500 square feet of office space, 61,200 of retail and 11,900 for warehouse.

It’s at the northeast corner of Tamarack Road and Bielenberg Drive.

Tamarack Hills II

Located at the northwest corner of Tamarack Road and Bielenberg Drive, the project is underway and features 111,686 square feet of office space, 78,936 square feet of retail, two freestanding restaurant pads totaling 17,300 square feet.

Residential Growth

A total of 253 single-family homes, along with 121 attached (townhouse, condo and apartment) units, were constructed in Woodbury in 2012. The average value for new single-family homes was approximately $325,083, excluding the cost of the lot.
