Russian Attack Kills Minnesota Native In Ukraine: Reports
James Hill was killed in Chernihiv, Ukraine, where he was helping to care for his partner, KARE 11 reported Thursday.

MINNESOTA — A Minnesota native has been killed in Ukraine by Russian military forces, according to multiple reports.
The State Department confirmed Thursday that an American was killed during Russian shelling of Chernihiv, a city about 90 miles north of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, the Associated Press reported.
James “Jimmy” Hill was helping to care for his partner in Chernihiv when he was killed, KARE 11 reported, citing his sister. She told KARE 11 that Hill's family received confirmation of his death through the U.S. Embassy, according to the report.

Hill had regularly posted updates about the war on his Facebook over the past two weeks, KARE 11 reported.

Hill wrote Tuesday in his second-to-last post that Chernihiv was under "intense bombing" and he had "limited food" in his "very cold room."
“Not allowed to take photos. Spies throughout the city,” Hill wrote Tuesday in his final post. “Bombing has intensified noway out[.]”

According to local police, Chernihiv was hit by a heavy artillery attack that killed many civilians, including a U.S. citizen. More than 50 people have been killed in the past day in Chernihiv, the Associated Press reported, citing a local official’s report on Ukrainian TV.
