These 15 MN Suburbs Are Expected To Grow Fastest By 2050: Met Council
The Twin Cities metro area is projected to grow to 3.81 million by 2050, according to the latest projections from the Metropolitan Council.
TWIN CITIES, MN — The Twin Cities metro area will experience steady growth for the next several decades, according to new projections from the Metropolitan Council.
The metro area is projected to expand from 3.16 million residents in 2020 to 3.81 million by 2050, marking a net increase of 650,000 people.
Alongside this population surge, the number of households is projected to climb from 1.24 million to 1.56 million, signaling steady residential development across the region.

"This growth pattern represents a slight shift to the suburbs after the decade 2010-2020, which was the most urban-centered period of development the region has seen in over half a century," the Met Council said.
Some communities stand out as hotspots for growth, with percentage increases that underline their rising popularity and potential. Leading the pack is Dayton, poised to more than double its population, followed by Rogers and Shakopee, all charting impressive upward trends.

Suburbs like Lino Lakes and Eden Prairie are also big winners.
Here are the 15 towns projected to have the largest percentage of population growth from 2020 to 2050, according to the Met Council:
- Dayton (Hennepin County): 131.56% growth (7,212 to 16,700)
- Rogers (Hennepin County): 89.54% growth (13,295 to 25,200)
- Shakopee (Scott County): 43.03% growth (43,698 to 62,500)
- Arden Hills (Ramsey County): 37.84% growth (9,939 to 13,700)
- Lino Lakes (Anoka County): 36.45% growth (21,399 to 29,200)
- St. Francis (Anoka County): 35.10% growth (8,142 to 11,000)
- Ramsey (Anoka County): 34.56% growth (27,646 to 37,200)
- Lexington (Anoka County): 32.12% growth (2,248 to 2,970)
- Eden Prairie (Hennepin County): 31.94% growth (64,198 to 84,700)
- Edina (Hennepin County): 31.23% growth (53,494 to 70,200)
- East Bethel (Anoka County): 30.66% growth (11,786 to 15,400)
- Minnetonka (Hennepin County): 29.98% growth (53,776 to 69,900)
- Blaine (Anoka County): 28.45% growth (70,222 to 90,200)
- Maple Grove (Hennepin County): 28.39% growth (70,253 to 90,200)
- Woodbury (Washington County): 25.43% growth (75,102 to 94,200)
