WGU Launches "Bridge to Success" Scholarship for Twin Cities Area
Residents of the Minneapolis-St. Paul region are eligible to apply for the fully online, nonprofit university's exclusive $5,000 scholarship
In an effort to empower residents in the Twin Cities region to go back to school and further their education, Western Governors University (WGU) – which serves more than 5,000 current students and graduates throughout Minnesota – has announced it will offer up to $100,000 in scholarships to newly enrolled students residing in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Each “Bridge to Success” Scholarship is valued at up to $5,000 and is open to new and returning students interested in earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any of the fully online, nonprofit university’s 60+ degree programs in IT, business, K-12 teacher education and healthcare professions, including nursing.
Each scholarship will be applied to WGU’s already-low, flat-rate tuition of about $3,800 per six-month term for most bachelor’s degree programs and will be credited at a rate of $1,250 per term, renewable for up to four terms. Though multiple scholarships will be awarded, this is a competitive program, and scholarships will be granted based on a candidate’s academic record, financial need, readiness for online study, and current competency, as well as other considerations. New students can apply for the “Bridge to Success” Scholarship online at wgu.edu/bridge through June 30, 2022.
“We are thrilled to offer this scholarship opportunity to the Twin Cities region and help ease the financial burden for those returning to school this year,” said Dr. Angie Besendorfer, Regional Vice President of Western Governors University. “WGU is proud to offer busy adults throughout Minnesota with an affordable, flexible path to career-boosting education, and we hope this scholarship will encourage those considering going back to college to earn their degree to make that leap.”

WGU is a leader in providing fully online, affordable education to working adults who are interested in furthering their skillset but need the flexibility of online education to fit their busy lives. WGU offers a competency-based approach to learning, allowing students to take advantage of their prior knowledge and experience to move through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. Students complete their programs by studying, completing coursework and taking tests on schedules that fit their lives, advancing as soon as they demonstrate that they have mastered the subject matter. This model, which measures learning instead of basing progress on credit hours earned, allows students to learn at a more personalized pace, saving them time and money in the process.
