Who's Been a Lucky, Big Lottery Winner?

A Woodbury resident was among recent Minnesota State Lottery winners.

Thirteen months ago, Burnsville couple Thomas and Kathleen Morris grabbed news headlines when they walked into the offices of the Minnesota State Lottery to claim a $228.9 million Powerball Jackpot.

Since then, no one has come along to rival or top the Morris' monster winning. But there have been plenty of smaller but yet noteworthy winners. According to the State Lottery, here are some of those recent lucky lottery winners:

  • Patricia Mystrom, of Woodbury, on Aug. 31 won $100,000 by playing the Lottery’s Crossword Extra scratch game. Her win came after she spent $20 she had received as a birrthday gift to splurge on buying four $5 Crossword Extra tickets.
  • Annette Kaufman, of Edina, claimed the $352,642  Gopher 5 jackpot from the Aug. 27 drawing. She claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters on Sept. 7.
  • John Janes, of Shoreview, on Sept. 3 bought some Northstar Cash tickets, then found out he was the sole winner of the $100,213 jackpot. He claimed the prize on Sept. 5.
  • Dionne Lochen, of Vadnais Heights, on Aug. 21 won $50,000 playing the $500,000 Deuces Wild scratch ticket game.
  • Aaron Beck, of Eagan, on Aug. 20 won $100,000 from the Hold'Em scratch game.
