Woodbury Alters Voting Precincts After 2022 Redistricting Process

New congressional and legislative maps forced Woodbury officials to make changes to most of the city's precincts.

WOODBURY, MN — The Woodbury City Council approved changes to more than half of its precincts after newly redrawn maps released earlier this year split the city into two congressional districts.

The Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel created the maps after the Minnesota Legislature could not agree on new maps following the 2020 Census.

The new maps include changes that move some Woodbury residents into a new congressional district.

The line between the Second District and the Fourth District ran along Woodbury's southern border for the last 10 years. The new maps have moved that border about 2.5 miles north to Bailey Road.

Suburban central Washington County remained in the Fourth District after redistricting, but the northern portion of the county was moved into the Eighth District. A portion of Stillwater Township also joined the Eighth District.

The new congressional and legislative maps forced Woodbury officials to make alterations to most of the city’s precincts, with changes coming to nine of 16 precincts.

Voters in precincts 1-5, as well as precincts 7 and 8, will see no changes, according to a summary prepared for the Woodbury City Council by Administrator Clinton Gridley.

Woodbury’s 15th precinct was redrawn to include the former 15th and 16th precincts, while the new 16th precinct will include a portion of southeastern Woodbury between Bailey and Lake roads.

Woodbury’s 14th and 15th precincts will be included in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, while the rest of the city’s precincts will be in the Fourth Congressional District.
