Woodbury High Grad To Star As Next 'Bachelorette'

Michelle Young, the newest star of "The Bachelorette," graduated from Woodbury High School in 2011.

WOODBURY, MN — A decade after graduating from Woodbury High School, Michelle Young is set to star in the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette.”

Young, who teaches kindergarten at Echo Park Elementary in Burnsville, was selected as the next face of the TV franchise after fans fell in love with her during "The Bachelor" season with Matt James.

She is only the third Black woman to be chosen as “The Bachelorette,” which first premiered in 2002.

Young earned a place on the Star Tribune's all-metro first team for basketball in 2011 during her senior year at Woodbury High. She went on to play Division I basketball at Bradley University in Illinois.

"I was never the girl invited to cute dates at the apple orchard in the fall," she says in the trailer, which features shots of downtown Minneapolis and CHS Field in St. Paul. "I was the girl picked last for prom but the first for basketball."

Much of the upcoming season is set to take place in Minnesota, notes the Star Tribune.

"Michelle has big dreams for the future and says she wants a man by her side that is supportive and driven to make the world a better place," reads her Bachelorette bio.

"She is looking for the Superman to her Superwoman and is ready to find a love with whom she can start a family of her own."

The new season of “The Bachelorette” starring Young will premiere at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.
