Woodbury Senior Earns College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship
More than 150 higher education institutions are sponsoring annual awards for 2,600-plus students across the U.S.

WOODBURY, MN — A high school senior from Woodbury is set to receive a college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship after being named among the winners Wednesday.
More than 150 higher education institutions are sponsoring annual awards of $500 to $2,000 for more than 2,600 students for up to four years of undergraduate studies at the sponsoring institution.
Math and Science Academy senior Chloe Nelson earned a scholarship sponsored by the University of Minnesota, where she plans to study genetics, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which runs the program.

Nikhil Jain, a senior at Woodbury High School, is set to receive a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, while three other Woodbury students earned scholarships sponsored by 3M.
National Merit 3M Scholarship winners were Minda Li and Minkai Li — both seniors at Woodbury High School — and Elissa Frankel, a senior at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul, according to the organization.

Minkai Li was also named as one of two U.S. Presidential Scholars from Minnesota for 2022.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation plans to name about 1,400 additional winners in July. By the time those winners are announced, about 7,500 high school seniors will have won about $28 million in National Merit Scholarships in 2022, the organization said.
