In the book, the youngsters “share their perspectives on friendship, perseverance, self-discovery, faith and so much more,” reads a release. “Children from all walks of life have contributed to this fun, whimsical book and you will be amazed by their insight, touched by their compassion for others, and amused by their humor.”

People can find the book online on the Cookie movement website.

Patterson, a Flint, Mich., who has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in administration. She discovered, however, that she would rather be “teaching, encouraging, motivating,” she told Patch in a December 2011 interview.

She later moved to working on personal and professional development for college students and doing public speaking. Her message is one of self-esteem, creating healthy relationships and “making wise life choices.”

Patterson urges people to talk about their differences and ask questions. The overriding theme for the Cookie Movement, she said, is simply kindness and respect.

“Do that, and you will definitely come out on top,” she said.
