- Hattiesburg transit driver Sherry Grice was honored for her quick thinking and assistance to a passenger who had a medical emergency. Mayor Toby Barker witnessed Grice attending to the distressed passenger while firefighters provided aid. Grice promptly called for help, safely guided the man off the bus, and stayed with him until he could be transported to the hospital. (WJTV)
- Authorities are conducting a search for a suspect who allegedly rammed into a Hattiesburg police officer's patrol vehicle during an altercation. The incident took place after the officer responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle and encountered two individuals involved in a domestic situation. The suspect fled the scene after striking the officer's vehicle, prompting an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation due to the officer firing shots during the encounter. (WJTV)
- The City of Hattiesburg is offering an emergency roof repair initiative to eligible homeowners within the city limits, utilizing federal funds obtained from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program aims to assist qualified individuals in repairing their roofs based on household size and income. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as funding is still available, and the initiative has already successfully replaced 45 roofs since its launch in September 2023. - The Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art and the City of Hattiesburg are making significant progress towards their goal of creating "The City of a Hundred Murals" with the unveiling of the 46th mural titled "Love Language." Painted by local artist Thomas Jackson, the mural is located in the back alley of Hattiesburgers and Blues in downtown Hattiesburg. The artwork, commissioned by Art For All MS, showcases the word "love" in American Sign Language. (HubcitySPOKES.com)
- In case you missed it, Hattiesburg is eagerly anticipating the opening of its first cat café, Cattiesburg Cafe, where visitors can enjoy coffee while interacting with adoptable cats. - In preparation for National Pet Adoption Week, Southern Pines Animal Shelter and The Hub City Humane Society joined forces with PetSmart in Hattiesburg to find loving homes for animals in need.
