- Crews have broken ground on a new 4.2-acre park in Hattiesburg. Midtown Green will be located off Crestmont Avenue and will include exercise stations, a walking trail, an inclusive playground, and more. Funding for the project comes largely from a $500,000 grant from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2024. (HubCitySpokes)
- A man was shot and killed Thursday morning while allegedly attempting to steal a car. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Jun. 8 in the 800 block of North 28th Avenue, where officers arrived to discover the man dead from a gunshot wound. Another male found at the scene was taken into custody by investigators. (WDAM)
- A Hattiesburg native has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his current assignment, Dear Beloved was in command of the 637th International Support Squadron, Joint Base in San Antonio, Texas. He has also served overseas in Germany and Korea and has been deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. (WDAM)
