1. MDAH looks to legislature for addition Crigler Park funding (northsidesun.com) — State archives officials are asking lawmakers for $2 million to help finish the first phase of Margaret Ann Crigler Park on the former Eudora Welty Library site in downtown Jackson. The new green space will feature native landscaping, a children’s play area, and an outdoor stage, connect to the Museum Trail, and give visitors a new view from the Two Museums toward the State Capitol.
   

2. Ruling on Jackson water rate increase may come early 2026. What we know (clarionledger.com) — Jackson residents could see a decision as soon as January on whether their monthly water bills will rise about 12%, as a federal judge weighs JXN Water’s proposed rate hike. City officials argue the utility should first cut costs and improve collections, while JXN Water insists higher rates are needed to keep the system financially stable and avoid setbacks in ongoing repairs.
   

3. Jackson police mourn death of officer (wapt.com) — Jackson residents are being asked to remember Officer Robert L. Myers, whose death has left the Jackson Police Department and wider community in mourning. Chief Tyree D. Jones praised Myers’ three years of dedicated service, noting he continued serving despite health challenges. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but local law enforcement extended condolences to his family and friends.
   

4. Couple arrested after body found buried in backyard amid search for missing mother (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Jackson police have arrested a husband and wife after discovering a body buried in their backyard during the search for 81-year-old Carol Ryan, who was supposed to be in a Brandon nursing home. The remains, found wrapped in a tarp under concrete, have not yet been identified, and investigators say the search for Carol continues as possible additional charges are considered.
