Alden Tew finds her career path, confidence at MCC (meridianstar.com) — A Meridian native, 20-year-old Alden Tew, has fast-tracked two technology programs at Meridian Community College, graduating in software coding this month and set to finish network cybersecurity in May. After briefly trying a four-year university, she found confidence, leadership opportunities, and hands-on training at MCC, and now plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science or cybersecurity.
   

2. Law Enforcement Reports for Dec. 17 (meridianstar.com) — Local law enforcement is reporting a series of recent arrests and crime incidents handled by the Meridian Police Department and Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, including shoplifting, assaults, burglaries, DUIs, and robberies. Names of accused individuals are withheld, and all are presumed innocent, but the detailed locations and dates help Meridian residents stay aware of where crime is occurring around town.
   

3. Local attractions featured on Great Mississippi Nature Trail (meridianstar.com) — Two favorite outdoor spots near Meridian, Dunn’s Falls and Clarkco State Park, have been named among the first 20 sites on the new Great Mississippi Nature Trail. The statewide initiative aims to draw visitors to Mississippi’s natural beauty, giving local residents more visibility and potential tourism benefits for nearby parks just minutes from town.
   

4. U.S. Navy Sets New Trainer Fleet Size Target (aviationweek.com) — Naval Air Station Meridian is slated to receive the first batch of the Navy’s new jet training aircraft under a revised schedule for replacing the aging T-45 Goshawk fleet. The service plans to buy 216 aircraft total, with a contract award expected in 2027 after a slight delay tied to the government shutdown.
