The start date for the resurfacing of Sunshine Street between Kansas Expressway and Glenstone Avenue has been pushed back due to weather conditions. The work is now expected to begin at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 7 with work beginning near Kansas Expressway and proceeding eastward.Â
City contractor, Blevins Asphalt Construction Co. expects to complete the project through a 24-hour operation. Crews will work day and nighttime shifts, generally completing milling work on a segment overnight, then laying new asphalt over that section during the day. The project is anticipated for completion in December (weather permitting).
Motorists can expect at least one lane in each direction to be open at all times, but traffic delays can be anticipated. Please obey all posted signage and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
Approved by voters in 2019, the resurfacing of Sunshine Street is part of a Major Roadway Resurfacing project also including portions of Battlefield Road (between Kansas Expressway and Glenstone Avenue) and National Avenue (between Kearney and Sunset streets). The resurfacing of Battlefield and National are scheduled for spring of 2022.
The project is funded through federal Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funds and the ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax. The total cost of the major roadway resurfacing project is $2.9 million, with the Sunshine portion estimated to cost $824,000.###For more information, contact Communication Coordinator Kristen Milam at kmilam@springfieldmo.gov or 573-819-3713.
