Meet A Future Leader In Springfield: Nicolas Wetzel
Patch and T-Mobile have partnered to highlight young people achieving great things in our community.

The future of Springfield is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Nicolas “Nic” Wetzel, who are making a positive impact in and around Springfield.
Nic, a recent graduate of Central High School, was named the 2024 Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield. Nic’s journey with the club began at age 8, and what started as a place to spend time after school transformed into a cornerstone of his personal growth. His dedication to leadership, academic excellence and community service led to the award, which comes with a $16,000 scholarship. As of 2024, Nic planned to use the scholarship to study criminal psychology and forensics at Missouri State University.
Nic's story of perseverance and leadership is a testament to his character. He has overcome obstacles to become a role model for younger club members, encouraging them to "respect yourself" and "be who you are." His integrity, trustworthiness and bright future were highlighted by the president of Partners In Education, Mike Hoppman, who praised Nic’s leadership during the Youth of the Year ceremony.
