Springfield is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Springfield has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Springfield's Fantastic Caverns is the only drive-through cave in North America. Visitors can explore its stunning rock formations without ever having to leave their car.
  • The city is home to the World's Second Largest Fork, a 35-foot tall stainless steel utensil located outside of Springfield's former KitchenAid factory.
  • Springfield was the birthplace of Route 66, one of the most famous highways in the world. It also boasts the Route 66 Car Museum, which showcases classic cars and memorabilia from the Mother Road's heyday.
  • Springfield's Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium is the largest wildlife attraction in the world. It houses over 1.5 million gallons of aquariums and exhibits featuring over 800 species of animals.
  • The Springfield Art Museum is the city's oldest cultural institution and features over 10,000 works of art. You can view pieces by famous artists such as Salvador Dali.
