Apartment Fire: Man Catches Baby Dropped From 2nd-Story Window

St. Louis fire officials praised Arnez Merriweather, who caught the girl and helped save her family.

ST. LOUIS, MO — A 3-year-old girl plummeted from a second-story apartment Monday morning — into the arms of a waiting neighbor, Fox 2 reports.

The girl's mother dropped her to Arnez Merriweather to save her from a fire that had broken out in the north St. Louis building, filling the hallways with smoke and trapping the family.

Merriweather caught the girl, then helped the rest of the family to the ground. He told the television station that he's just glad everybody is OK.

Fire officials praised the man's quick actions.

"It's really heartening to see in a time when folks are really concerned about clicks, likes and follows, that instead of capturing footage, this young man actually went into action to help his neighbors," St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby told Fox 2. "Everyone that was around kind of bonded together, and it definitely led to a positive outcome."
