Dutchtown businesses receive funds for storefront repairs and improvements (firstalert4.com) — Fourteen small businesses in St. Louis’ Dutchtown neighborhood are getting a boost, sharing $81,000 in grants to repair storefronts and freshen up the commercial strip. Funded with interest from the city’s ARPA dollars and run by the St. Louis Development Corporation, the program will soon extend to Laclede’s Landing and Delmar Main Streets as well.
   

2. St. Louis installs mobile sirens to fill gaps while 10 of 60 warning devices remain broken (firstalert4.com) — St. Louis is rolling out mobile tornado sirens and upgrading its entire 60-siren network after a deadly May storm exposed major failures, with 10 devices still offline. Repairs and new automatic activation features tied to National Weather Service alerts are underway and expected to be finished by April, while residents are urged to sign up for Notify STL for additional warnings.
   

3. You’ll also see updates on a Safe Haven Baby Box effort, Kim Gardner’s disciplinary hearing, and a halted deer cull in Wildwood.

United Way hosts an ‘Evening of Thanks' (stlamerican.com) — United Way’s top donors recently gathered in St. Louis for an “Evening of Thanks” recognizing the Alexis de Tocqueville Society’s major role in funding local services. Leaders highlighted that 40% of regional households struggle with basic needs and urged continued support for the 2025 campaign, which backs programs helping more than a million people across Missouri and Illinois each year.
   

5. New plaque will mark notorious St. Louis slave prison site near Busch Stadium (stlpr.org) — Downtown St. Louis will soon get a new historical plaque marking the site of Bernard Lynch’s notorious slave prison, now beneath the Stadium East parking garage across from Busch Stadium. After a five-year push by local historians, politicians and institutions, the bronze marker will be unveiled in late January to educate passersby about the city’s role in slavery and ongoing racial justice efforts.
