Here are the top three stories in Bozeman today:
- Emersen York, a student at Gallatin High School in Bozeman, is raising awareness about homelessness and urban camping, particularly among teenagers and young adults. As part of her senior project, she partnered with a local small business, Montana Shirt Company, to create a T-shirt with the message "Montana Cares," aiming to make a bigger impact and show support for homeless youth. The sales of the shirts have raised over $700, with all proceeds going to Human Resource Development Council's Blueprint Continuum Program, which provides crucial services to homeless teens and young adults in the community. (NBC Montana)
- The City of Bozeman's Water Conservation Division has launched the Beautify Your Boulevard Community Landscaping Contest, encouraging residents to replace water-intensive turfgrass with drought-tolerant and native plant gardens in their street boulevards. Participants should register by Jun. 30 and complete their landscaping projects in 2023, with images submitted by Nov. 1 for community voting in January 2024. Winners will receive prizes including gift cards and outdoor water-smart gift baskets, while the Water Conservation Division provides rebates and resources to support the landscaping alterations. (NBC Montana)
- The City of Bozeman is seeking public input for its development of the Belonging in Bozeman Plan, which aims to create an inclusive city where everyone feels welcome. The city is asking for feedback through a survey to guide the creation of an Equity and Inclusion Plan that will inform policies, programs, and partnerships. The plan will address identified gaps in the community related to basic needs and aim to ensure equal access to opportunities and resources for all residents, visitors, and city employees. The closure order was lifted after the health department determined that there was no longer an immediate health hazard. The restaurant had been closed since mid-April due to a foodborne illness outbreak that affected 50 people and resulted in ongoing investigations, although the specific source of the outbreak remains unidentified.
