Here are the top three stories in Bozeman today:
- After a decade, Bozeman is hosting its first LGBTQ+ Pride event from May 15-21, featuring various activities organized by The Countship of the Imperial Sovereign Court of the State of Montana. The event, originally planned for a few events on Saturday, grew unexpectedly due to overwhelming support and participation from local organizations. The schedule includes workshops, hikes, comedy shows, drag performances, and a pride stroll, emphasizing the celebration of identity, acceptance, and love amidst the current global and local context. - The City of Bozeman is preparing for construction this summer to replace an old sewer main on Main Street and several surrounding roads. The project will impact approximately five blocks, including two blocks on Main Street, requiring the removal of parking spaces. Despite the inconvenience, the city aims to complete the $1.2 million project in time for summer events like Music on Main and Sweet Pea, with construction expected to conclude by the end of the season. - Montana State University and its partners have received a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study prescribed fires and their social impact. The project, called SMART FireS, aims to develop real-time monitoring technologies using optical sensors and computer science to understand fire behavior, map burnable fuels, and monitor smoke emissions. The five-year effort involves collaboration among 32 researchers and institutions across Montana, with a focus on improving fire management practices and policies through data-driven insights and education.
