Cause & Culture: Local organizations rally to combat food insecurity and cold weather (thereader.com) — Omaha residents facing a tough winter can tap into a wide range of local food, warming, and utility-assistance resources, from community fridges to Salvation Army outreach. The guide highlights specific Omaha locations, phone numbers, and programs serving seniors, refugees, students, and unhoused neighbors, while also explaining how you can donate food, clothing, or funds to support them.

Omaha man's wheelchair towed, then released after misunderstanding (wowt.com) — A disabled Omaha resident briefly lost access to his $25,000 motorized wheelchair after it was towed by the city and mistakenly treated as an abandoned vehicle. 3. Demolition of southwest Omaha hotel 'eyesore' on hold through at least mid-February (ketv.com) — A long-vacant hotel near 108th and L streets in southwest Omaha will not be torn down yet, after a judge extended a restraining order blocking the city’s approved demolition. The California-based owner claims Omaha broke a no-demolition deal, which city officials deny, and both sides will present evidence at a Feb. 12, 2026 hearing that will determine the property’s fate.
4. Omaha memorials honor 117 homeless individuals who died this year (1011now.com) — Two Omaha memorials at Gene Leahy Mall and Open Door Mission honored 117 homeless residents who died this year, many without funerals or recognition. Speakers, including a formerly homeless man now in recovery, urged compassion, while Mayor John Ewing proclaimed every December 21st as Homeless Person Memorial Day to ensure their lives are remembered.
5. New Supernovas coach emphasizes unity and fundamentals this preseason (3newsnow.com) — Omaha volleyball fans will see a new look from the Supernovas as incoming head coach Luka Slabe stresses fundamentals and team unity ahead of January’s season opener. With 13 new players on the roster, practices in Omaha focus on simplifying drills, building on-court connections, and a shared “win and lose together” mentality.
