📰 News we're reading

1. Omaha residents travel to Council Bluffs for New Year's fireworks (wowt.com) — If you’re planning a New Year’s fireworks show in Omaha, remember you can’t buy fireworks in the city but you can legally set them off Dec. 28–30 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Dec. 31 from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Many residents are heading to Council Bluffs stands like Wild Willy’s to stock up, since Nebraska allows December sales but Omaha does not.

2. Bus company, Omaha customers still owed money after tour company closes (wowt.com) — Omaha-area travelers are still waiting on refunds after Elite Goody Tours abruptly shut down, canceling trips and leaving both customers and a local charter bus company unpaid. Local quilters lost deposits on a Missouri trip, while Navigator Motor Coaches is suing for unpaid invoices but still plans to give the group a free day tour.

3. Omaha initiative addresses ‘period poverty' and personal care needs (wowt.com) — An Omaha-based effort called The Beauty Box Project is collecting hygiene and menstrual products to support local women fleeing violence or facing financial hardship. Partnering with the Women’s Center for Advancement, the project has already gathered over 1,300 items and $3,000 in donations in just nine days, helping restore dignity and opportunity for women across the metro.

4. Omahans reminded fireworks OK but celebratory New Year's Even gunfire not allowed (omaha.com) — As Omaha heads into New Year’s Eve, residents are reminded that fireworks are only allowed for a limited time and celebratory gunfire is still illegal within city limits. A sweeping set of 2025 photos then captures everyday life, big storms, protests, parades, and major moments across Omaha and nearby communities.

5. Former Carson Group marketing executive drops discrimination lawsuit (financial-planning.com) — An Omaha-based financial firm, Carson Group, is no longer facing a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit after former marketing chief Mary Kate Gulick agreed to dismiss the case with prejudice. The dispute involved allegations over handling of a reported assault and altered medical records, and ends with no payout to Gulick and some costs repaid to Carson.
