LAS VEGAS, NV -- An iPhone was caught on camera reportedly exploding inside a Las Vegas business. The footage, shared by KTNV, shows the explosion as a man sits nearby.
KTNV reported the iPhone was at the unidentified repair business to get a screen replaced "after it cracked due to heat damage as the battery expanded."
The owner of another repair business told KNTV the explosion could have been caused by heat.

"The biggest issue he sees the temperatures rise into the triple digits in Las Vegas are the cracked screens from warped batteries," KNTV reported.
"Not only can it lead to explosions in extreme cases, but it can also shorten the life of the battery —especially after the phone issues a temperature warning a few times," the news station reported.

Apparently this isn't the first report of an iPhone randomly "exploding," possibly caused by the battery. Newsweek reported in January that a Switzerland Apple store was evacuated after an iPhone exploded. Another incident was reported in Spain.
But technology news site, Lifewire.com, said the chances of your iPhone exploding are slim.
"Remember, Apple has sold over 1 billion iPhones. As we noted, there's no official list of these issues, but if it was something that even one in a million people experienced, it would be a major scandal," Lifewire.com wrote. "Your odds of getting struck by lightning in any given year are about one in a million. Your iPhone's battery exploding is probably even less likely. If you're not regularly worried about lightning, you don't need to be worried about your phone, either."
To ensure your battery gets replaced before anything happens, look for signs of your battery swelling, making a hissing noise or your phone getting extremely hot without cooling down, Lifewire.com said.
Patch reached out to Apple for comment. This story will be updated when the company responds.
