Nevada State University expanding to North Las Vegas (8newsnow.com) — Nevada State University is opening a new campus in North Las Vegas’ downtown core near Las Vegas and Lake Mead boulevards, with construction starting next spring and opening planned for Fall 2027. City leaders say the three-story, mixed-use campus will expand affordable higher education, boost workforce training, and let residents earn advanced degrees and build careers without leaving North Las Vegas.
   

2. Las Vegas police arrest more than 100 in human trafficking operation during F1 race week (news3lv.com) — Las Vegas Metro Police say more than 100 people were arrested or cited in a four-day human trafficking operation tied to last month’s Formula One race weekend, with 78 contacts made with people in commercial sex. Investigators and local nonprofit Signs of Hope stress trafficking is a year-round problem across the valley, highlighting rising victim numbers, recovered children and adults, and ongoing efforts to connect survivors with services.
   

3. Governor Lombardo announces new steps to protect Nevada's Jewish community (fox5vegas.com) — State and local law enforcement in Las Vegas are being urged to step up visible patrols and vigilance around synagogues, Jewish schools, and community centers after a rise in global antisemitic attacks. Governor Joe Lombardo is forming an antisemitism working group, while Metro police and Clark County agencies are already coordinating extra protection for Southern Nevada’s Jewish community.
   

4. Las Vegas police demonstrate crosswalk safety laws after recent pedestrian fatality (ktnv.com) — Las Vegas Metro Police are stepping up crosswalk safety demonstrations after a December 5 pedestrian death, walking residents through how drivers and walkers must behave at offset crosswalks. Officers, joined by Ped Safe Vegas, are enforcing laws at busy intersections like Flamingo and Mojave and warning that even a split-second distraction on Las Vegas streets can be deadly.
   

5. Celebration of Life gathering offers support to families grieving during the holidays (news3lv.com) — Families gathered in Downtown Summerlin for Nathan Adelson Hospice’s annual Celebration of Life, a Las Vegas event offering comfort to those grieving during the holidays. Attendees shared memories, reflected on lost loved ones, and heard advice on honoring grief, setting boundaries, and keeping meaningful traditions alive as they navigate an emotionally challenging season.
