Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot and killed in the line of duty on Thursday. Officer Truong Thai, 49 years old, was killed during a shooting with an armed individual near the 800 block of E. Flamingo Road. He had been with the department for 23 years and held various roles during his service. (Las Vegas Patch)
  2. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reports that the individual accused of stabbing eight people on the Las Vegas Strip entered the United States illegally. Yoni Barrios, 32 years old, entered the United States without going through a border inspection point. He is a Guatemalan citizen. Two individuals were killed during the stabbing. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  3. The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department is hosting a free breakfast on Saturday morning. The event will be held at North Las Vegas Fire Station 52 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. During the free event, the department will be providing guests with fire safety demonstrations. The event is meant to kick off Fire Prevention Week. (News3LV)
