The annual hands-on event at the National Finals Rodeo boosts confidence for local children while inspiring rodeo athletes to slow down, give back, and serve.

2. Volunteers sought for nationwide homelessness initiative in Clark County (fox5vegas.com) — Las Vegas-area residents are being asked to volunteer for the 2026 Point-in-Time count, a one-night January effort to tally people experiencing homelessness across Clark County. Organizers say the nationwide initiative, led locally by the Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care, helps shape services by surveying people in shelters, transitional housing, and on the streets.

3. Standoff at Las Vegas group home for children when business denies access to state investigators (8newsnow.com) — State investigators and Las Vegas Metro police spent hours gaining access to a local psychiatric group home for children after staff initially refused them entry. The clash follows court fights, search warrants, and patient removals at other Moriah Behavioral Health homes in Las Vegas, amid ongoing concerns about youth safety and oversight in these facilities.

4. "Tarnishes the badge"; Las Vegas police Sheriff addresses domestic violence arrests (news3lv.com) — Las Vegas Metro Police leaders are confronting a troubling rise in officer arrests, including five domestic-violence cases and several DUIs so far this year. Sheriff Kevin McMahill says the incidents “tarnish the badge,” promises accountability, and points to new wellness and mental-health resources aimed at preventing future problems for the department’s 6,200 employees.

5. Loved ones gather for killed North Las Vegas teen (8newsnow.com) — A recent North Las Vegas shooting left a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man dead, prompting grieving friends and neighbors to call on the Las Vegas community to stop the violence.
