Three Cats Die In Downtown Las Vegas House Fire
Three cats died when a home that fire investigators believe may have been occupied by squatters caught fire early Sunday morning.
LAS VEGAS, NV - A fire at a home in Downtown Las Vegas Sunday morning killed three cats, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said in a release. Two people were treated for minor smoke inhalation and no other injuries were reported in the fire.
According to Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Tim Szymanski, the fire was first reported at a one-story home on S. 9th St. at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 1. When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were coming out of a window in the front of the house. The fire was put out quickly, Szymanski said, and firefighters began searching the home for another person, who the two people who were treated for smoke inhalation said might still be inside.
Nobody was found inside, and the two people left before Fire and Rescue finished at the scene. Szymanski said the home may have been being occupied by squatters. Neighbors told investigators that it had been in foreclosure and been boarded up until recently, when they began seeing people going in and out.
