- The organizers of the annual National Championship Air Races event here in Reno have announced that this year's event in September will be the last one after nearly 60 years. The Reno Tahoe Airport Authority cited concerns regarding public safety, the rapid development of the area, and potentially negative economic conditions as the reasons behind the decision. The final air race will be on Sep. 13 through Sep. 17 at the Reno-Stead Airport. (KRNV)
- On Mar. 8, more than 1,000 community members gathered in Reno to pay tribute to honor the lives lost in the Feb. 24 fatal Care Flight crash. The tribute began with a procession from Walton's Funeral Home to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center where a memorial service was held for the victims and included family, friends, community members, and government officials, including Gov. Joe Lombardo and Reno Mayor Hilary Schieve. (Subscription: This Is Reno)
- The City of Reno hosted an event called "Flip the Switch" on Mar. 8 in honor of Women's History Month. The event centered on the new lights that have been installed on the BELIEVE sign that allows officials to change the light's color. For Women's History Month, the lights on the sign were changed to purple, the internationally-recognized color that represents women and gender equality. (KRNV)
