Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- The Washoe County School District is looking into making changes to Pine and Vaughn Middle Schools, and this may impact the elementary schools zoned for these schools in the future. Some options being considered include consolidating elementary schools and having Pine Middle School students attend newer schools. The district is holding a meeting on Apr. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Middle School to present initial concepts and gather input from the public, but no final decisions will be made at that time. (KOLO)
- The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is offering free online gardening courses via Zoom in May, as part of their Grow Your Own, Nevada! Program. The eight-class program aims to teach Nevadans how to grow and preserve their own food, promoting sustainable and healthy living. The series of workshops will cover a range of topics, including soil building, pest control, and composting, and are suitable for both beginner and advanced gardeners. Classes run from May 2-25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Register here. (Nevada Appeal)
- Tickets are on sale now for the 25th annual Barracuda Championship, the only PGA TOUR event of its kind in the Truckee/Tahoe and northern Nevada area. The event, which features pro-ams and practice days on Jul. 17, will run from Jul. 20 to 23 at the Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood (about 30 minutes from Reno). Daily grounds tickets and parking must be purchased in advance as there will be no onsite ticket purchases available. (Fox 11)
