Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- The City of Reno will be collecting community input during its Chief of Police search. Chief Jason Soto will retire in January 2023, and the city will be conducting a nationwide search to find a replacement. The survey will be open through Sep. 30 for residents to complete. - The University of Nevada, Reno will be getting federal support for research projects. The federal funds are through the Biden Administration's new CHIPS and Science Act. The funds will benefit the university's Center for Applied Research. (This Is Reno)
- The Reno Police Department has set up school zone enforcement patrols. The department will be enforcing the zones Monday through Friday, thanks to a grant to a state grant paying for officer overtime. The department is asking residents to obey school zone laws and to fully stop at crosswalks. (KOLO)

- The US National Weather Service Reno has announced that the city has posted a new rainfall record for August. This month, the city has experienced 1.66 inches of rain. The previous record was 1.65 inches in 1965. (US National Weather Service Reno Nevada via Facebook)
