📰 News we're reading

1. Andrea Loving now faces murder charge in death of daughter, Izabella (2news.com) — Washoe County prosecutors have upgraded charges against Andrea Loving to first-degree murder in the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Izabella, a case moving from Reno Justice Court to Second Judicial District Court. The Cold Springs child’s April death, ruled a homicide, has already led to open murder charges against Nicholas Loving and repeated court battles over media access as the community closely watches the proceedings.

2. Reno Man Found Guilty of Third DUI with High Blood Alcohol Content (sierradailynews.com) — A 37-year-old Reno resident was convicted of a third DUI after a jury found he drove with a very high blood alcohol level and refused sobriety testing. Authorities highlighted the case, which carries at least 120 days in jail, as a reminder to Reno-area drivers to avoid impaired driving during the holidays.

3. LTCC's Jeremy Evans hired as next head coach for Nevada Women's Soccer (southtahoenow.com) — Reno soccer fans will see a new era at UNR as longtime Lake Tahoe coach Jeremy Evans takes over the Wolf Pack women’s program after a decade of success at Lake Tahoe Community College. He’s already meeting players and 2026 recruits, promising a fresh start and stronger team culture while commuting from his South Lake Tahoe home.

4. Here's how often Reno gets a white Christmas (rgj.com) — Reno’s odds of waking up to a true white Christmas are surprisingly low, with only nine official white Christmases recorded at the airport since 1937. National Weather Service records show snow on Christmas is slightly more common, but it often melts before the 7 a.m. measurement that makes it count.

5. After a week on strike, most employees of Reno's one union Starbucks are back to work, but the effort continues (renonr.com) — Reno’s only unionized Starbucks, at Lakeside and McCarran, has partially reopened after a week of morning strike closures, but several baristas are still picketing daily through Christmas. Workers are pushing for higher pay, better staffing, and more stable hours, tying their local fight to a national Starbucks labor campaign.
