Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- A fatal crash closed northbound U.S. 395 for about seven hours on Saturday morning. The Nevada State Police reports that the crash occurred when a vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned. The vehicle's passenger died in the crash. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. (KOLO)
- The Reno Police Department reports that a recent crackdown on illegal car sideshows has been successful. During the two crackdowns, five vehicles were towed, nine individuals were arrested, and 46 citations were issued. The department ensures the public that it will continue its zero-tolerance policy towards dangerous sideshow activities. (KOLO)
- The Washoe County Sheriff's Office reports that a suspect has been taken into custody following a heavy police response on Sunday morning. The arrest occurred in Sun Valley in the area of Pit Lane and West 6th Ave around 10:00 a.m. The department states it will release more information as it becomes available. (KRNV)
Patch deal of the day:
Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
